Te whai rahi - the oceanic manta ray, is the largest ray in the world, they have the biggest brain of any fish and are highly intelligent.
At 8 Wired, the ocean has always been part of who we are - the coastline surrounds our brewery and often inspires much of our craft. When we learned about the gentle, majestic oceanic manta rays that pass through Aotearoa each year - and the very real threats they face - we knew we wanted to help.

Research has revealed NZ manta embark on massive bi-annual migrations into the SouthWest Pacific upwards 9,000km towards Fiji, Tuvalu, and Tonga. Unfortunately satellite data has revealed something alarming: a significant number of tagged mantas are dying on their travels.
Manta Watch has launched a crowdfunding campaign to send three scientists into the region to investigate threats and support partners like WWF working toward a protected “blue corridor” for all migratory marine species.
